Manufacturers and installers should generally not adopt devices that will be sold to customers. Adopting a device implies that you are the owner and intend to monitor and manage it over an extended period. There is little benefit to adoption if you will only interact with the device for a few minutes or hours. You can do everything you need via USB or a direct WiFi connection without adopting.

If you are working on a complex project that requires interacting with the controller over multiple days, adopting the device would make reconnecting more convenient. If you do adopt, know that your customer cannot adopt the device unless you abandon it or transfer it to them from your account.
