Manufacturers and installers should ideally not be adopting devices that will be sold. Adopting a device implies you are the owner and need to monitor and manage the device indefinitely. Once a device has been adopted it cannot be adopted by another user unless it's factory reset, abandoned, or transferred by the current owner. These steps would be tedious and easy to forget when only interacting with the device for a few minutes.

There are some cases where adopting a device might make sense, but there are alternative options that don't require you to remember to abandon or transfer the device when you're done.
